The John A. Coleman School provides educational services for multiply disabled students with complex medical diagnoses.  These students have mild to profound physical and cognitive challenges and respond to an innovative curriculum that utilizes a multisensory developmental approach.  Our curriculum assists staff to design and implement appropriate educational programming tailored to the individuality of each student and assesses each child's progress towards the New York State Learning Standards.

The curriculum allows for instruction in the classroom as well as in gym, music therapy, during cooking and library activities, on community trips, and during transitions to and from school.  It is relevant for activity planning for the individual child as well as for small group experiences, always ensuring that each child progresses at his/her own rate and pace of learning.  In addition, the family is an integral part of their child's education and is encouraged to participate in our school program.

The School does not discriminate based upon race, religion, gender, etc. and acknowledges, respects and nurtures the cultural and religious background of its students.  To this end, exposure to significant events, holidays and religious customs are seen as an integral part of the curriculum.
