Employee Recognition
Betsy Award For All That You Du
Damicela Toro began her employment as a paraprofessional at the John A. Coleman School on July 18, 2005. She exemplifies the mission each day as she carries out her responsibilities to the children, families and to her co-workers. Some of the words used to describe Damicela include: loving, compassionate, collaborative, and dependable. She greets people each day with a smile and a helping hand.
Coleman School co-workers Janice Britton and Karen Wyszinski say that, Damicela is always willing to assist her colleagues as she collaborates with the neighborhood staff and can often be found feeding the children breakfast, dressing them for school and providing other daily care needed, even though it is outside of her job responsibilities.
According to Certified Nursing Assistant Gail Brown of the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center, I highly appreciate her sense of initiative to take on tasks and duties outside of her job. She shows so much sincerity in her dealings with co-workers and studentsshe is such a joy and a blessing to people like me who are fortunate to meet and interact with her.
Damicela is warm and gracious to the families of the children who attend the Coleman School. She is respectful and epitomizes the Centers philosophy that All Are Welcome. When a child is in discomfort, Damicela will rub their head, change their position, and talk to them until the child is comfortable once again.
Damicelas colleagues refer to her as a wonderful person. The positive impact that she makes upon others is clearly evident in her five nominations for the Betsy Award for All That You Du.
In addition to her work here, Damicela is a dedicated mother to her two children, Leah and Derek, and loving wife to her husband, Phillip.
Congratulations to you, Damicela. You are a wonderful role model.
