Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center "Continuous Learning" Program Selected for NYAHSA 2005 Innovation of the Year Award

(NEW YORK, NY) – On September 21, 2005, the "Building Excellence through Continuous Learning" program at the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center (ESPC), will receive the 2005 Innovation of the Year Award from the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA), in recognition for vision and creativity in providing care and services. The award will be presented at 12:00 noon to program directors and staff from the John A. Coleman School and ESPC, at 590 Avenue of the Americas.

Established in 1988 as an affiliate of the New York Foundling, the ESPC is now an independent nonprofit health facility licensed by the New York State Department of Health providing care for children with severe disabilities and complex medical conditions.

In April 2005, NYAHSA announced the selection of the "Continuous Learning" program to receive the 2005 Award. The program is a joint learning initiative program of the Rehabilitation Department of ESPC and of the John A. Coleman School, which operates out of the Pediatric Center, serving some of New York City's most medically vulnerable children.

The goal of the program is to create a child-focused, home-like environment for children, families and staff achieved through the creation of team activities that concentrates on a child's strengths rather than their limitations and builds on these strengths to promote further independence, growth and self confidence.

ESPC is a member organization of NYAHSA, which represents the New York State's not-for profit, mission-driven and public long term care providers. Founded in 1961, the NYAHSA is the only statewide organization representing the entire continuum of not-for-profit and public continuing care, including nursing homes, senior housing, adult care facilities, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living providers and community service providers.
