I Have A Dream...

Dreamers stand against the night
They are prophets
They are burdensome to us...
they make us uncomfortable...
they demand that we rethink our belief systems... and they are trouble makers
they shake us loose from our unexamined convictions...
they are the unwelcomed rooster in the dark dawn because we prefer our sleep to the day.

Dreamers are the promise of a new day
They are friends of God
It is when they courageously light their candle that we realize what bitter darkness we are in...
They are the singers of Joy.
They lift our hearts with hope.
They call our truest selves into the brilliant light of day,
and we know it—we feel it in our very depths...

Today, O God, we honor those of our human flesh, who while on this earth, planted the seeds of hope and vision in our hearts: Abraham, Joseph, Leah, Moses, Ruth, Judith, Mary of Nazareth, Joseph, Jesus, Mohammed, Martin Luther, Abraham Lincoln, Chief Joseph, Harriet Tubman, Dorothy Day, Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King, Jr. , Gandhi, Our foremothers and forefathers of our homelands, Sisters of Charity: Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, Elizabeth Boyle, Irene Fitzgibbons Angela Hughes...

We stand surrounded by those Dreamers today, our need is great and our dreams are greater. And so, being in such great company, as these ancestors of ours…we look to you, because like them we place our trust in you, O Lavish God of Dreamers and Abundant Giver of Wisdom and Strength. AMEN!
